Digital Tower Technology Coalition
A U.S. coalition of airports, regional partners, air traffic controllers, original equipment manufacturers, and federal partners formed to advance remote and digital tower technology in the National Airspace System. Citing the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, the coalition advocates for federal funding and FAA approvals, supports early implementation projects, and works to develop industry standards. Its case: the technology improves safety (advanced cameras and sensors, including infrared for low-visibility), lowers construction and maintenance costs versus conventional towers, and can bring year-round ATC to rural and seasonal airports, while the FAA has not yet certified a U.S. remote/digital tower even as Sweden, Norway, and others run dozens.
