Brazil's military-run airspace authority; Santa Cruz became South America's first remote tower in October 2019.
DECEA, Brazil's Department of Airspace Control under the Air Force, both regulates and provides air traffic services; ANAC is not the ATS regulator. The first remote tower in South America went operational at Santa Cruz Air Base (SBSC), Rio de Janeiro, on October 18, 2019, on a Frequentis system with 16 cameras including three PTZ, installed in about six months. DECEA frames Santa Cruz as the model for remote regions, and Saab and Atech signed a 2022 partnership to bring digital towers to Brazil and Latin America.
