The digital evolution of the tower: a sensor-fed, software-driven air traffic control environment.
Digital tower describes the broader move from analog, out-the-window tower operations to a digital, data-rich control environment. It covers the same camera and sensor backbone as a remote tower but emphasizes the digital layer: automation aids, AI-assisted detection, integrated surveillance, recording, and the ability to centralize services and information across many airports in one common environment. CANSO and EUROCONTROL increasingly use 'remote and digital towers' together because the value is as much in the digital tooling and centralization as in the controller being physically remote.
