US aerospace group; Collins smartVISION is the surviving federal-track US digital tower program, under FAA testing at Atlantic City.
RTX, through Collins Aerospace, builds the smartVISION digital tower technology aimed at US and international remote tower applications. After Saab withdrew from Leesburg (2022) and Searidge from Fort Collins (2023), citing an unnavigable approval path, RTX and Frequentis remained the active US federal-track vendor pair, with the FAA conducting operational testing of their system at Atlantic City International (KACY) as of 2025. No System Design Approval (SDA) has yet been issued for any US remote tower. RTX also appears in the FAA's Airborne Position Reference Tool (APRT) safety risk management panel process alongside uAvionix (July 2025 panel).
